Pet Please #10: The False Alarm

Tomorrow night, millions of people across America  who have a holiday Friday will forget to turn off their alarm for the following morning. When the sun rises, millions of alarms will disrupt REM cycles. Millions of people will wake up to turn off those alarms, grumbling to themselves because they have to get ready for work. Then, millions of people will have the same revelation:

I don’t have to go to work today. I can go back to sleep.

It will be a glorious occasion. I actually look forward to forgetting to disable my alarm just so I can have that moment of freedom. I don’t know if I’ll go back to sleep–I have a lot of work to do on TypeTribe and other projects–but if I want to, I can.

Share this beautiful moment with me Friday morning. (No, not literally. Waking up with a million people in my bedroom would be awkward.) Forget to disable your alarm and awake to the freedom to go back to sleep.

  1. Thanks for writing this up, Jamey, but let me clarify that this pet please for me would not involve my alarm going off (that would piss me off if I sent it when I didn’t need to), but, rather, at some point tomorrow my body clock would wake me up, I might then have a few harrowing moments of “oh, crap, I overslept and have to make it to work”, and then I would realize I could return to the blissful land of bed for as long as I want.

My alarm is the devil, and does not get to take part in this pet please.

No such pet please today, though…

    • Good point, thanks for clarifying. I think both would fall under the category of “pet please.” Also, I should give Bob due credit for thinking of the “pet please” idea. I used to write many more pet peeves on the blog, and Bob suggested I refocus to something positive. Pet Pleases are some of the most read entries on this blog, especially if you count Salma Hayek as a Pet Please.

  2. But what about those folks that have alarms in other forms – not mechanical, such as a dog that needs to relieve themselves outside or a young baby or toddler with an internal clock, or even a mature older adult that both has an internal clock and the need to relieve themselves. I guess the world should be happy that the mature older adult does not need to relieve themselves outside but is content for the inside pleasure. What could these folks pet peeve be when faced with a holiday?
