A Little Push

I don’t surf the web all that much.

Granted, I’m on the internet all day. Constantly. But I spend most of my time on my e-mail and Google Reader. I like my content delivered to me–I don’t like to have to go out and find it.

That means when I do venture out into the wild and check out a site that I haven’t visited before, that site has a very short amount of time to win me over. You can usually tell in about 2 seconds if the site is well built or not, if it takes the user into consideration.

If I make it past 2 seconds and the site is trying to get me to sign up for something, it gets one chance. If it’s a long, complicated signup (with one exception, Hunch.com, which is damn addictive. It makes data-gathering fun), I’m out. No deal.

Every now and then, though, I stumble upon something truly refreshing in its simplicity and ease of understanding and use. Granted, I didn’t just “stumble” upon the site below–this is the newly launched website of a friend. But I wouldn’t be committing a blog entry to it if I didn’t think the landing page wasn’t brilliant (my friend didn’t ask me to write this entry). Check it out:

There’s a little more on the real page (click the image to go there), but that’s pretty much it. A few questions, most of them drop-down menus, no credit card required. All the information you need is right there on the page.

Do you have any examples of sites that are as clear and simple as this?

Daily Quickie: I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night with the desire to go to graduate school in Wales–specifically, Aberystwyth University. This is very odd, considering I don’t really want to go back to school and that I’ve only been to Wales once (and it’s cold there!) I wonder if Welsh women like American accents…

  1. Admittedly, my favorite line of this post is the last one in the Daily Quickie. For whatever reason it makes me think of the British dude in Love Actually 🙂 And cold Wales?! That is weird!
