Random Idea: Sponsored Pre-Snap Quarterback Routines

ManningChargersI tuned in and out of the Denver Bronco’s victory over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, but I noticed one consistency every time Denver had the ball: Peyton Manning kept shouting “Omaha” as part of his pre-snap routine.

The command may have meant something, or it may have just been said to get the Chargers to jump offside. But in total, Manning shouted “Omaha” over 40 times during the game.

I didn’t think much of it, but today I read on ESPN that both the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and Omaha Steaks turned the pre-snap routine into a publicity blitz on Twitter. A tweet about it from @VisitOmaha got over 4,000 retweets, and the Omaha Steaks tweet (“Woke up to 652 missed calls from . “) got almost 3,000 retweets. Very cool.

So it got me thinking: Couldn’t a company sponsor a number of snap counts in an NFL game? It would be a great way for a company to have millions of people hear about their product. I could totally see a quarterback yelling “Burt’s Bees! Burt’s Bees!” before the snap.

What product, company, or organization would you like one of the quarterbacks competing in this week’s playoff games to shout before the snap?

Update: Omaha Steaks is actually considering this idea.
