Double Please

gasPet Please #110: Brushing Your Teeth After a Long Flight

Even if you didn’t eat or drink anything since the last time you brushed your teeth, it feels SO good to brush your teeth after a long flight. Or any flight, for that matter. It might not be at the level of showering after a flight, but for the time it takes, it’s pretty awesome.

Pet Please #111: Filling Up an Empty Tank of Gas

I don’t like going to the gas station, so I do it as little as possible. Sometimes it means that I end up seeing the warning light before I begrudgingly fill up the tank.

This happened the other day, and I experienced an odd elation as I started the car after getting gas. Sure, I had just spend $52 on gas, but suddenly my car was telling me I could drive 390 miles without stopping. I could go anywhere.

(I went home and watched Orange Is the New Black, but still. I could’ve gone anywhere.)

What’s your pet please of the day?

  1. My pet please: when I am tasked to do something, only to realise I’ve already done it. It’s rare, but it feels great when it happens.

If this starts to occur more frequently though, I might need to go see a doctor about memory retention problems.

  2. Coming home after a two and a half week trip (after brushing teeth and showering of course!) to find my neighbor watered my garden while I was gone. All of my vegetables survived!

  3. Finding out that a library book I want to read is available to borrow (and download to my Kindle) immediately. Since discovering the e-content section available at the local library, I’ve taken advantage of the service quite a bit (I love being able to select a new book without having to leave my house, and that portion of the library is open online 24/7) and am always happy to be able to place a hold on a book I want to read, knowing it’ll be available in a few days, but it’s extra awesome seeing that big “borrow now” button on the screen.

  4. Cool summer mornings. One of the things I enjoy is that brief respite from summer when you step outside and realize there’s a refreshing nip in the air. When I leave for work in the morning it’s usually around 6 am, and my street is quiet except for the occasional dog walker. Those days when it’s both cool and quiet give me about 30 seconds of perfect tranquility before I jump in my car and head off to the office.

  5. I was rummaging around in my closet looking for something and came across a purse I haven’t used in a while but love. It was like scoring an awesome new purse for free!

And an entire new season of OITNB is definitely a pet please for me! Let’s just say I didn’t get much done last weekend…

Also (and much more importantly), after far too many months of struggling to find another job, I started at a new one last week. I received an email notification this morning with an electronic paystub attached for my first paycheck that will be deposited into my bank account tomorrow. Tears, relief, pride, gratitude…you name it, I felt it.
