Is There Any Better Smell Than a Fresh Waffle Cone?

That’s a hypothetical question. Of course there isn’t. It tastes like delicious.

Two and a half months ago, before leaving my parent’s house post-Christmas, I stopped by Gelati Celeste to purchase 7 quarts of what I consider the best ice cream in the world. I stacked them in a big cooler in the trunk of my car, and 13 hours later, I was happy to see that they hadn’t melted at all:

Almost every night since then, I’ve enjoyed a scoop of ice cream after dinner. Gelati Celesti ice cream is really rich–you don’t need more than a scoop. Plus, I wanted it to last as long as possible. The flavors I had were:

  • mint chocolate
  • salted caramel
  • Oreo and peanut butter
  • cookie dough
  • chocolate peanut butter
  • cherry vanilla
  • chocolate decadence

I finished off chocolate decadence about a month ago, but the last few scoops of cherry vanilla are still in my freezer. They’ll be gone by the end of the week.

I’ve been curious if the last 2.5 months–arguably the best 2.5 months of dessert in my life–would spoil me for other ice cream. So by chance, a few nights ago a few friends wanted to try out a hot new ice cream place in St. Louis called Ices Plain & Fancy, and I agreed to go.

The special thing about Ices is that they make their ice cream on the spot using liquid nitrogen. This fascinated both of my friends’ kids:

The ice cream itself was good–kind of like fancy soft serve. Definitely nowhere close to Gelati Celesti, but no one is, so that’s not a slight in the least to Ices. I would say that the best thing about the place is the smell of the fresh waffle cones–I’ve been thinking about them ever since.

What’s your favorite dessert? Do you think you could eat it every night for two and a half months?

  1. Yes and its name is Graeters ice cream- love so many of the flavors but my favorite is the buckeye blitz. Thankfully, they have started to sell them at grocery stores across the country ( located in Cincinnati). Sadly I haven’t found the Buckeye Blitz outside of the Ohio/ Kentucky region but my other top flavors can be found at the store

Much like your Gelati Celesti, a scoop is perfect ( or it is if you are trying to savor it)

  2. First, hi, cute little baby!

OH, MY GOD! Ice cream with fresh waffle cone is amazing! I go to Oberwise to treat myself and my brother occasionally. Brownie a la mode is usually our go to; however, whenever I smell their freshly made waffle cones, it’s on! I have to have one with a scoop of whatever ice cream I’m craving. That slightly warm waffle cone with ice cream… *drool*

  3. I think Schnucks might carry it. The flavors at the grocery stores are wonderful but for the very best flavors, you have to go to one of the stores. I know louisville has stores

    • Interesting, I’ll have to see if they have it there. I’ll be in Indianapolis this summer, so I’ll try it there.

    • Emma: I wonder if there is a perfume that smells like waffle cone? Seems like you attracted quite a bit of attention for it!

  4. If you go to Graeters’ website, you can enter a zip code to see the stores near you that carry it. I entered a couple that I could remember and it listed Straubs and the Dierbergs on Watson. ( to be fair, the zip codes at the top of my head are one near Wash U and where my house was in Southampton. )
