Dear Photograph and The Zookeeper’s Wife

I’ve subscribed to a blog called Dear Photograph for as long as I can remember. It’s a site that shows old photographs overlapping new ones, like this:

There’s something really poignant about these photos and their captions. It feels a little bit like time travel, like I get to feel the weight of history passing between the two time periods.

The site doesn’t post much these days, so I was delighted to see a new entry yesterday. I was also impressed that the new entry was actually part of a collaboration between them and Focus Pictures and their upcoming movie, The Zookeeper’s Wife.

Focus apparently paid for the people behind Dear Photograph to travel to Warsaw to capture moments like this throughout the city. I absolutely love this, because it fits perfectly into the site (it’s not like blatant product placement–there’s nothing artificial about it). It could also be an effective marketing tool for the film, as Dear Photograph has nearly 100k Facebook fans.

Have you ever had a Dear Photograph moment? Have you ever been influenced by a clever collaboration like this?
