At a dinner party on Friday, a friend asked if I had a favorite lesser-known movie that I’d recommend. I rarely see eclectic films, so I’m not sure if any of the movies on this list truly fit the “lesser-known” category, but they’re close enough. These aren’t Oscar winners or box-office juggernauts; they’re just great movies that some people saw and most didn’t.
- Primer: If you like time-travel movies, I recommend this.
- Definitely, Maybe: If you like romantic comedies, I recommend this.
- The Fantastic Mr. Fox: If you like quirky movies or Roald Dahl books, I recommend this.
- The Cabin in the Woods: If you’re critical of movie tropes, I recommend this.
- Warrior: If you need a good cry, I recommend this.
- Win Win: If you want to root for a likable group of people, I recommend this.
- Adventureland: If you want to feel like a teenager for a few hours, I recommend this.
- Make Believe: If you’re in the mood for a documentary, I recommend this.
- Midnight in Paris: If you want to be whisked away to another time, I recommend this.
- Warm Bodies: If you like films that challenge the norm, I recommend this.
What are a few lesser-known movies you love that you’d recommend?
The Princess Bride
would not call this lesser known by any stretch
Moon
I enjoyed Primer even though it took a couple of watches before I figured out that there’s not a “correct” answer to the question “what happened”? For good crime movies, I’d recommend “Traffic”, for vampire films, “Innocent Blood”, for superhero films “Condorman”, for space films “Enemy Mine”
