Biddy’s 11th Birthday

My first cat, Biddy, turned 11 years old on Friday.

It turned out to be a bit of a unique birthday, because Walter had some blood in his stool, resulting in a last-minute trip to the vet. Walter’s okay, and perhaps Biddy enjoyed the few hours of peace he got while Walter was away. Here’s Walter at the vet:

But this was Biddy’s day! Here’s what he was up to on his birthday:

First, I gave him a box. A big, empty box. At first he just sat on one of the pieces of cardboard, but soon…

…soon the box was his.

Next I opened up his chest of toys. He has lots of toys strewn about the condo, but every now and then I open up this drawer so he can select any toy he wants.

We also had a brief staring contest. I let him win.

All of these games worked up quite an appetite. Biddy is only allowed to eat wet food, but nothing makes him happier than eating some of Walter’s food, so I gave him 7 seconds inside of the food bag. He was finally able to cross this off his bucket list.

Finally, it was time for some naps in one of his favorite spots–right behind me on my desk chair while I work.

I’m very lucky to have such a clever, playful, communicative, loving cat as Biddy. Happy birthday, my little boy!

  1. Aww what a cutie! I bet Biddy was super tired out after such a big day. Glad to hear that Walter is ok too! Does Biddy have a favorite toy or kind of toy? Or does he love every toy equally?

Our cat (Bonus) has been strategically storing all of his toys under our sectional sofa. At least, I’m pretending it’s storage. He loses interest in them rather quickly.

    • He and Walter both slept soundly on Friday night. 🙂 Biddy’s favorite toys are rubber bands. He often plays with them on his own, and he’ll often play catch with me.

What is Bonus planning to do with all those toys?

  2. I loved this post! I love how you told the story! I see Biddy is fond of Q-tips as toys, so is my Benedict Cumberpaws. He will play with them and whittle them down to a couple of inches of bent and chewed on cardboard. In honor of Biddy’s bday I got the Biddy microbadge on the geek and put it on my profile.

      • Hey Jamey, True story, as I was just cleaning the litterbox, I asked myself the question, how did Biddy get his name? I did not have an answer. Maybe Josh W. knows 😉

Also, being the way too curious person I am, I wondered how you two met? Biddy, not Josh.

PS It is sort of embarrassing having guests over and they find a Q-tip on their chair, or some randomly laying around the floor despite my best efforts to control access. My 19 year old daughter is living with me so she is not quite so good at keeping the Q-tip drawer shut.

        • Josh (one of our ambassadors) certainly knows lots of rule answers! 🙂 I’ve never met Josh, but Biddy and I met 11 years ago, and at the time my girlfriend and I named him Baby Bok Choi. My girlfriend was fond of giving nicknames, so Baby Bok Choi somehow became Bitten Kitten, Bitten Boy, Biddy Boy, then Biddy. Then we broke up, I kept Biddy, and I stopped changing his name. 🙂
