What It’s Like to Work for My Boss

all dressed up
My boss

I’ve been working from home for about a month and a half now, and I’m loving it. I don’t think I’ve ever worked more in my life, but it rarely feels like work. I’m building my own company from the ground up, something I’ve always wanted to do, and every day I get to do a mix of creative, logistical, and customer service elements that really come together well.

I was worried when I started that I would rapidly become a hermit, but quite the opposite has happened. I get to interact with hundreds of people every day online, which, granted, is digital and not face-to-face, but it’s something. And I actually get out of the house way more than I thought I would. It’s a good reason to shower.

The one weird thing is my boss. My boss is the type of manager who likes to monitor every single thing I do.

This is kind of nice and also kind of creepy. For example, my boss feeds me oatmeal every morning. As in, my boss physically spoons the oatmeal into my mouth while I answer emails. So that’s nice.

But my boss doesn’t stop there. My boss monitors all food I eat and any television I watch during breaks. My boss brushes my teeth for me (gotta keep an eye on dental insurance!) My boss puts me to bed every night and wakes me up every morning.

My boss is somewhat frugal. My boss allocates a specific amount of toilet paper to me during bathroom breaks depending on output. My boss buy all of my clothes, and only once or twice a year. Style is not a priority for my boss.

But hey, I’m sure this is no different than any work environment, right? All in all, I appreciate the effort and care my boss puts into my time at work, and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

In case I need to make this clear, I am my own boss. The boss I describe in this entry is me. We’re the same person. Nothing creepy is actually happening here.

  1. My boss had technical difficulties so I’m entering this again. 😉 An official welcome to our world. Your boss has good taste. I think he and mine should hang soon. Cheers from Hollyhood.
