Biscuits on a Stick

It’s been a food-filled Labor Day weekend for me, so this week the blog will focus on food.

Today I’m going to talk about a themed potluck dinner I attended on Saturday. The theme was “on a stick”: Every dish was supposed to be eaten off a stick.

Now, I interpreted the “stick” theme as a challenge to put things on sticks that aren’t normally served on sticks. So being the Southern boy that I am, naturally I made biscuits on a stick:

I cheated a little bit: I used the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuit recipe, with the smallest of twists: I made each biscuit half the size of the recipe’s specifications.

I didn’t put the sticks in until I removed the biscuits from the oven, allowing the the biscuits to cool and harden around the sticks. At the party, most people ate a few bites on the stick and then removed the stick to eat the rest of the biscuit.

Here’s a photo of the other items served on sticks at the party:

The items here are:

  • fruit on a stick (raspberries, pineapple, and strawberries)
  • appetizers on a stick (basil, tomato, mozzarella, and bread)
  • strawberry shortcake on a stick (with dark chocolate drizzles)
  • pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate and sprinkles
  • tons of kabob materials for the grill (chicken, beef, mushrooms, squash, zucchini, onions, tomatoes)

Overall, it was an excellent theme for a party, as everything easily made and eaten.

What would you like to eat on a stick?
