The End of Dating

Okay, this has to be a sign.

Two years ago, I attended a big hot air balloon glow in St. Louis with my parents, who were visiting from out of town. I had a great time, and I swore to myself that the next year I would return with a date, because it seems like it would be a great date.

A year passed, and not only did I not have a date, I completely forgot about the balloon glow until the day after, when the St. Louis sky was filled with hot air balloons.

Tonight, on a whim it occurred to me that it was glow season, so I checked out the website for the schedule. Sure enough, the glow is a mere 3 weeks away.

So I halfheartedly signed on to OkCupid to see if there was anyone interesting there (and to maybe find a fun question for this blog entry). To my surprise, there was a pretty cute woman who likes cats, seems nerdy, and doesn’t smoke. She had a nice profile–well written, plenty of photos, etc. I very, very rarely initiate conversations on OkCupid these days, but I thought, why not?

I wrote her a short message and clicked send…only to see this:

That’s right. In the 3 minutes it took me to write her a message–in that exact timeframe–she decided she was done with online dating.

I’m not one for thinking the universe is constantly giving us signs and signals and all that, but that doesn’t seem like a coincidence. Okay, fine, it’s literally just a coincidence, but it doesn’t feel that way! This is surely the end of dating, right?

This might sound like I’m complaining, but really I just thought it was amusing enough to share. The timing was impeccable.

19 days until the balloon glow!

Somehow, this sounds like the plot of a rom com. Waiting to see if the universe will reunite you guys. 19 days and counting.

I have the perfect girl for you. She is an art teacher, well-traveled, smart, funny, pretty and has cats. What more could you want?

Oh wait…she lives in Birmingham ??
