Have You Ever Been Unexpectedly Propositioned?

I had something happen to me this evening that I absolutely must share.

This week a podcaster named Chris reached out to me (board game publisher Jamey, not personal blog writer Jamey) to interview me for his podcast. I happily agreed, and we set the time for 8:00 tonight.

Around 6:3o, before eating dinner, I opened Skype and saw that I had received a contact request from Chris–at least, I thought it was Chris. I barely looked at the name, but my brain definitely saw it as “Chris.”

When I finished dinner, I came back to my computer to find that “Chris” had said hello. I greeted him with an enthusiastic “Hey!” Then this happened. Remember, I thought I was talking to a podcaster who would be interviewing me in a few minutes:

My brain processed this information in several stages within milliseconds, each one revising the previous conclusion:

  1. Well, that’s a very personal detail to share. This is going to be an interesting podcast.
  2. Wait, what?
  3. Who is Chic Hunniedaisy?

I laughed out loud when I realized it wasn’t the podcaster, just some random Skype sex worker (who I immediately unfriended). I then proceeded to get the real contact request from the actual podcaster. We did not talk about baths.

Has this ever happened to you?

  1. Hahaha. Exciting experience xD. Well, my experience is slightly different. Back in the day when I was still working on a publishing company, we had a partnership with a very enthusiastic Korean company. I shared my skype details by emails to them then ever since that I got (almost daily) requests from someone with the name ‘Jolly Gal’. Well, due to the nature of the name, I automatically rejected the requests. When, we’re finally met, the rep girl from the company ask me why I keep rejecting her request? It turned out that the ‘Jolly Gal’ was the rep girl. We were laughing so hard that time, fun times :D.

  2. I had a Hangouts request from someone I didn’t know, so I approved it to ask who they were. They told me that they met me on a dating site a while ago and we fell out of touch so she was reaching out. That didn’t seem so implausible, so I humored her and asked how she was. She immediately started sending me pics of a highly questionable nature, I told her that I was quite happy with a ridiculously sexy woman already, she ignored that and kept her assault up, and I unfriended her. Since then there have been a number of requests via Hangouts or Skype that I have completely ignored if it’s a female name I don’t recognize.
