Do You Know Rufio?

It’s no secret that I love the movie Hook. At least, young Jamey loved hook. Old Jamey hasn’t watched Hook in years because he doesn’t want to ruin it.

My favorite character in Hook (by far) is Rufio, the leader of the Lost Boys in Peter Pan’s absence. Rufio is brash and fearless, and he offers a stark juxtaposition to Peter Pan in that he chose his own fate without special powers. He’s just a dude who stepped up to lead.

A few days ago I stumbled upon an announcement that the actor who played Rufio is running a Kickstarter campaign for a sequel to Hook called Bangarang. It’s Rufio’s story before he ended up in Neverland. I backed the project before even knowing if I’d have access to the movie (that information is buried literally on the last sentence of the project page–the movie will be on Rufio’s YouTube channel).

I originally planned on mentioning this here in the hopes it would help the movie successfully fund–when I backed it a few days ago, it had only raised a few thousand dollars. But since then it’s skyrocketed past it’s goal, so I thought I’d celebrate the project instead. I can’t wait to see how they tell Rufio’s story!

Do you have a favorite childhood film to which you’d like to see a sequel in this style? That is, this will be a very low-budget production, but it sounds like a passion project for those involved.
