The Future of Toilet Paper

I’ve been hesitant to write about this topic, as there’s really no way to discuss it without making some people uncomfortable.

However, I just can’t help but share, because if you’re not aware of what I’m about to discuss, I’m near certain it will make your life better. We’re going to spend a few minutes talking about toilet paper, and then we’ll move on and get back to movies, kittens, and greatest fears.

Toilet paper is a good, solid, consistent product. We use it every day without even thinking about it–we literally just go through the motions unless it’s exceedingly bad (why does 1-ply still exist?!).

But a few months ago, a friend revealed to me that there’s something better. It’s not a replacement for toilet paper–rather, it’s an additional enhancement.

The product is the Cottonelle FreshCare Flushable Cleansing Cloth (a product name and package designed to both confuse and assure the customer). Basically, they’re wet wipes for your butt.

Now, I’m not someone who uses bidets. When I studied abroad in Japan, most toilets had bidets built in, and they never appealed to me.

The Cottonelle product is different. It’s essentially just a thick piece of toilet paper that happens to have a little moisture in it. And, quite frankly, it’s amazing. I use one every time I sit down on the toilet.

It’s so good that I’m inexplicably writing a blog entry about it just so you don’t have to spend the rest of your life using only regular toilet paper.

Okay, not it’s your turn. What’s one embarrassing product you use that you genuinely think would make other peoples’ lives better if they knew about it?

  1. I’ve been using these for years. Although, you should know that many plumbers say that they are not “flushable” as they claim. That they have seen many a plumbing disaster with these guys as the culprit.

I loved Japanese toilets. One of my favorite things about Japan. 🙂

    • Awesome! I wonder if Cottenelle will tweak the formula. I’m not totally comfortable putting the wipes in my wastebasket instead of flushing them…

  2. I think we switched to consistently having wet toilet paper in in addition to dry (Since there are things that dry can do which are more awkward with wet, also wet’s more expensive per sheet, so there are some things that they do equally well but you don’t want to waste a wet on) after visiting my husband’s mother after she switched to wet the Christmas before last.

Most I’ve seen instruct you only to use 2 sheets to prevent clogging, however (Which seems to go in line with Cynthia’s comment about not being as flushable as they claim)

  3. I’ve been using Lysol Disinfecting Wipes for a few years as an enhancement. Plus side is you can get them on amazon in 3 packs of 240 for pretty cheap. I haven’t had any problem on my end using them to flush, but a quick google search does show that they may be causing issues in municipal water systems.

  4. It’s not a matter of dry TP versus wet wipes clogging pipes! An effective toilet paper moistener is an eco-friendly alternative that is truly flushable, provides great hygiene and better skin care down there…easily portable, too. Etiquette’s organic based Fanny Clean is my product of choice 🙂
