Which Comic Con Trailer Made You Geek Out the Most?

Over the last few days, a ton of movies and television shows have revealed new trailers at Comic Con in San Diego. As much as I loathe trailers that reveal too much, as a fan, I found it hard to resist the likes of Thor: Ragnarok, Stranger Things season 2, Justice League, and Westworld.

But there’s one trailer that stands above the rest, one that activated every geeky nerve in my body: Ready Player One.

As is the case with every trailer I watch, there’s a part of me that wishes I hadn’t watched this trailer. But I’ve already read the book twice–I know what’s going to happen. If you haven’t read the book, which is about a near-future treasure hunt inside of a virtual reality world, I’d recommend only watching the trailer if you’re not already convinced about the movie.

That said, there are two key elements in the trailer I don’t remember from the book (I’m sure they won’t be the last): the appearance of The Iron Giant and a huge race scene. The Iron Giant was peek-geekgasm for me. To see it show up in an already-great trailer for a movie by Steven Spielberg based on one of my favorite books…mind blown.

But that’s me. What’s your favorite trailer that was revealed at Comic Con?

  1. The car race, I’ve seen on various places that it was added, and little is known about it. The Iron giant, who knows if it will be in the Movie, but I think it was just a bit of the easter eggs they were throwing in like the Deadpool/Deadshot, the Delorean, Freddy Kreuger, and Duke Nukem.

I really like the Stranger Things trailer with the Thriller Remix. I can’t wait for that to come out.

    • In the book, there are a few scenes (or maybe just one) where the characters have giant robots/creatures to fight for them, and I’m guessing the Iron Giant will fill in for one of them.

  2. I’ve also read that since Spielberg is directing it, he removed the references to his own movies, since that seemed a bit self-aggrandizing. So they likely needed to add a few more movie references to replace all of those Spielberg references (there were a lot!)
