Are you ready for a completely hypothetical, definitely-not-something-that-happened-t0-me situation?
Let’s say, just hypothetically, that you’re a big fan of cookies. Especially chocolate chip cookies.
We’ll pretend that you have the good fortune of acquiring a big chocolate chip cookie, and you place it on a napkin on your counter while you sit across the room eating dinner. You’re really looking forward to eating that cookie after your meal.
A few minutes into the meal, you hear an odd sound. You look up to see your cat licking the cookie. You tell him to stop, but he doesn’t care. He has found a cookie, and he will continue to lick it until there is no more cookie.
You jump up from your chair and shoo the cat away from your cookie, which you then examine closely. Even though you know it has been licked by a cat multiple times, it looks and smells like any other chocolate chip cookie. It appears normal.
Do you eat the cookie after dinner?
This is purely hypothetical.
Um YES. Do not waste good food. Plus, antibodies.
Antibodies! I like that justification. 🙂
I think it really depends on what the cat licked right BEFORE the cookie…
Seriously, though, my sister has been known to share ice cream cones with her cats – lick for lick. Eat the cookie. Or, if you prefer, I’ll happily do it for you.
Lick for lick?! That’s too far for me. But I have caught Biddy drinking my milk, and I still drink the rest–I don’t like to waste food.
Um, yeah, too far for me, too. It’s hard enough to do that with a human.
I think I’d rinse the cookie off. It probably accomplishes nothing, but it appeases my inner eww.
That’s a good idea. I thought microwaving it might also help kill some germs.
I wouldn’t eat it ~ due to the risk of toxoplasmosis.
I was worried for a moment, but I looked it up, and it sounds like even if my cat has it, it’s not a huge deal: “If you have a normal immune system, you’re not likely to experience complications of toxoplasmosis.”
Oh you risk taker! 🙂
I love that you “shoe” the cat away – I can see you reaching down and untying your footwear, then ferociously flinging it at the offending feline 🙂
(Feel free to tell me to “shoo” if my alliteration is getting annoying!)
Shoo, not shoe! Ha ha…I looked at that word a few times when I wrote it, thinking that it didn’t look right, but I couldn’t figure out an alternative. 🙂
no,it’s a lost cookie for me 🙁 , i don’t know if my cat have toxoplasmos
And be carefull, Chocolate is toxic for cat and dogs :s
That’s a good point. I don’t want Biddy to get hurt from eating chocolate.
Jamey,
I’ll be the outlier here as I’ve never had pets…unless you consider my two younger brothers growing-up. anyway, happy eating, Biddy (or Walter).
Cheers,
Joe
I could see a younger brother doing this type of thing to a cookie! 🙂
