If You Give a Cat a Cookie…

Are you ready for a completely hypothetical, definitely-not-something-that-happened-t0-me situation?

Let’s say, just hypothetically, that you’re a big fan of cookies. Especially chocolate chip cookies.

We’ll pretend that you have the good fortune of acquiring a big chocolate chip cookie, and you place it on a napkin on your counter while you sit across the room eating dinner. You’re really looking forward to eating that cookie after your meal.

A few minutes into the meal, you hear an odd sound. You look up to see your cat licking the cookie. You tell him to stop, but he doesn’t care. He has found a cookie, and he will continue to lick it until there is no more cookie.

You jump up from your chair and shoo the cat away from your cookie, which you then examine closely. Even though you know it has been licked by a cat multiple times, it looks and smells like any other chocolate chip cookie. It appears normal.

Do you eat the cookie after dinner?

This is purely hypothetical.

  1. I think it really depends on what the cat licked right BEFORE the cookie…

Seriously, though, my sister has been known to share ice cream cones with her cats – lick for lick. Eat the cookie. Or, if you prefer, I’ll happily do it for you.

    • I was worried for a moment, but I looked it up, and it sounds like even if my cat has it, it’s not a huge deal: “If you have a normal immune system, you’re not likely to experience complications of toxoplasmosis.”

  2. I love that you “shoe” the cat away – I can see you reaching down and untying your footwear, then ferociously flinging it at the offending feline 🙂

(Feel free to tell me to “shoo” if my alliteration is getting annoying!)

    • Shoo, not shoe! Ha ha…I looked at that word a few times when I wrote it, thinking that it didn’t look right, but I couldn’t figure out an alternative. 🙂

  3. Jamey,

I’ll be the outlier here as I’ve never had pets…unless you consider my two younger brothers growing-up. anyway, happy eating, Biddy (or Walter).

    Cheers,
    Joe
