My Main Concern About an Alien Invasion

Every day or so I hear the roar of an airplane above my building as it prepares for a landing at the St. Louis airport. Logically I know it’s an airplane, but the imaginative portion of my brain sometimes wonders if I’m hearing the sound of a massive alien spacecraft.

It’s then that the logical part of my brain kicks back in, usually to say, “Man, it would be really inconvenient if aliens chose this exact moment to attack.”

“This exact moment” usually refers to (a) me not wearing any pants, (b) me not having showered yet, (c) me not having eaten lunch, or (d) a host of other minor inconveniences that suddenly seem like a big deal if aliens attack.

Like, even right now. I’m winding down for the night. I’m not tired yet, but I’ll need to sleep soon. It really wouldn’t be cool if the aliens attacked now…I could maybe stay awake until 1:00 am if necessary, but after that I’m going to get really grumpy. That’s not good for anyone.

Think about it: If aliens attacked right now, is it a good time for you? Or could it be slightly better if you finished that email first or if you brushed your teeth?

  1. I see a lot of times it doesn’t work for you, but when would be the optimal time for you, Jamey? (I need to know before sending an evite to my little green friends.)

    • Dave: Hmm, that’s a good question. Ideally it would wait until I’ve completed and released the games I currently have in progress. Tuesday afternoons are usually pretty clear after lunch (except the first Tuesday of the month). I’d prefer a time when the weather is pretty nice outside. Could you pencil in September 8, 2020 at 2:00 CST?

  2. I am sitting at a railstation right now waiting for my train. I am ready for work, I have a lunchbox and the sun is shining. Seems like a perfectly good time for an alien attack *squints at sky*

  3. Jamey,

I have a different, albeit, more practical concern…when is it a good time to get sick? Surely this happens in one’s life with great regularity, but it does happen surprisingly at the most inconvenient of times. 🙂

    Cheers,
    Joe

  4. I used to have a fairly regimented schedule, and disruptions to it weren’t easy to handle. Then I had kids, which are there own sort of “Alien Invasion”. At the drop of a hat you can be called on for pretty much anything, and there’s no concept of being already busy, so you learn to roll with it.
