First, I want to say Happy Father’s Day to the traditional dads out there (fathers of human children). It’s a big job, and I’m impressed by what you do on a daily basis. I’m very grateful to have a loving, supportive father myself.
Second, Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there who have pets. Sure, it’s different than taking care of kids, but pets require a lot of the same characteristics of great fathers to stay happy, healthy, and stimulated. I’m a proud “father” to Biddy and Walter.
Third, here’s the new one: Happy Father’s Day to all of the entrepreneurial dads (and moms) out there. I’ve seen my business as my “baby” for years now–I helped bring it to life, I nurtured it into stability, and I’ve helped it grow. But I rarely talk about it that way, and even more rarely do I see other people discuss it in that context.
It surprised me by my how much it touched me to watch this video from a channel that closely follows everything related to Stonemaier Games. It was validating in a way that I didn’t realize I needed to hear. But I give so much of myself to my company in an effort to bring joy to tabletops worldwide, so it meant a lot me to watch this.
If you’re an entrepreneurial father or mother, I celebrate with you today. Your company may not breathe oxygen, but it has a unique type of heartbeat, and I commend you for all the love, time, and attention you put into it.
Thank you, Jamey. Fatherhood is the hardest job you’ll ever do but it’s also, IMHO, the most rewarding.
