Simon Sinek on Falling in Love

This is just a quick post, but I happened to watch a Simon Sinek video the other day that really resonated with me. It’s a talk about building trust at work, but he detours into some thoughts about what it’s like to fall and be in love (healthily). That’s where the video starts below. Here’s what he says:

  • “You devote yourself to the care of another human being, sometimes at the sacrifice of your interests.”
  • “It means when the person you love comes home from work and they say that they had a terrible day–and you had an amazing day–you don’t say a word about your amazing day at all. You sit there and listen with love and empathy to their horrible day as opposed to waiting for your turn to speak.”
  • “It means that you wake up in the morning and say good morning to them before you check your phone.”

I think he nails it, both in terms of the things you do instinctively when you’re in love and the things you do intentionally when you want to be better at loving someone. What do you think?
