What Did You Think About “The Mandalorian”?

I never thought there would be a day when we would get a live-action Star Wars TV show that felt like a seamless part of the SW universe. Does The Mandalorian meet that goal? In my opinion, it’s pretty darn close. Close enough.

FIRST EPISODE SPOILERS FOLLOW

Overall, I love the look of the show. It looks like a Star Wars movie, and the production values are off the charts.

I love the hints at lore beyond what I already know about Star Wars, especially about the Mandalorian sect (group? cult?).

I love the droid! Seeing him in a futuristic Western shootout was awesome.

I love the reveal at the end. I’m not exactly sure what it means (it isn’t baby Yoda, right?), but I’m curious to find out.

The only two things that didn’t quite click with me were (a) the pacing (it seemed like a lot happened in a very short period of time–certain scenes could have benefited by being a little longer) and (b) the CGI on the animals that the Mandalorian learned to ride. Something about their legs just didn’t seem right.

But that’s being picky, because I’m just delighted to have a Star Wars show of this quality that lets us explore a part of that world we haven’t seen in the movies. I look forward to chapter 2 tomorrow!

What do you think about the show so far?

  1. I liked it a lot. I thought the pacing was pretty good. I heard one reviewer even say they felt like the pacing was too slow. But all in all, I thought it was interesting. Not sure what’s going on with the Yoda species twist at the end. But I guess we will find out tomorrow!

  2. Not able to watch it yet myself. Kinda annoyed that (due to pre-existing licence agreements for content) we don’t get Disney+ in the UK until March.

I think they felt that as some content couldn’t be there at launch, there wasn’t enough to make it worthwhile. Instead, they perhaps should have offered it at a lower price for a few months to suck people in (while listing the films/shows that would appear later).

  3. I agree about the CGI regarding the animals, but overall thought the visuals were really well done! It definitely isn’t baby Yoda because this takes place in-between Episode 6 and Episode 7 (imperial credits not being valuable because the Empire doesn’t exist anymore).

Also the Mandalorians are a race of people – Boba and Jango Fett (Boba’s dad) are Mandalorians and Jango is who the clones from Clone War are based off of (and thus the initial inspiration for the Storm Trooper outfit). Hope this helps! Looking forward to watching how this show unfolds!

  4. From what I understand, all the CGI was rendered using the Unreal Engine.

I’m loving the show, it’s been so great so far
