A recent article on Slashfilm introduced me to a great short (10 minute) film called Skywatch. It’s set in a not-so-distant future when drones deliver even the smallest items to your living room using chutes installed in roofs.
This technology quickly takes a dark twist, and I don’t want to spoil anything. But I really love the concept itself. I’ve been hearing about drone deliveries for years, but I always pictured the drones landing on the front stoop or sidewalk.
In contrast, here’s the Skywatch vision for the future of drone deliveries:

This feels a little like magic, right? You order a few groceries, and they show up in a mailbox next to your refrigerator (or maybe even directly inside your fridge). The items arrived via a drone that lands on a special chimney, which is ultimately connected to the “mailbox.”
So cool! There are downsides, of course, but I just love any piece of technology like this that feels magical. What do you think?
Bonus: There’s a fun video by the director about how he arranged the cameo at the end of Skywatch.
What a fun find! More fun than Black Mirror 🙂
