I’ve officially been spoiled by soft-close drawers.
If you’re not familiar with the concept, there’s a type of device on the sliders for drawers that makes the drawers ease quietly closed no matter how hard you close them and even if you don’t quite shut them all the way.
My parents visited us for Thanksgiving, and my dad helped us install 6 such drawers in our kitchen. They were surprisingly easy to install–our sliders popped right out, and we screwed on the new sliders.
They warned me that the soft-close drawers would spoil us, and I had my doubts…until last week. We visited Megan’s family for Christmas, and they don’t have the special drawers. I can recall at least 3 times that I thought I had shut a drawer, only to find that the drawer stopped a few inches short of the mark.
Have you experienced this with an enhancement or upgrade in your house (you had a hard time adjusting when you traveled elsewhere)?
Yes, with soft-close drawers, doors and toilet lids. Worst are toilet lids at night, soooo noisy, lol.
Now I need to go look at our toilet lids to see if they’re soft close. 🙂
Oh, you know if you have them.
Definitely! The soft close toilet lid is the worst habit you can have when you go to someone that does have them. So loud, so scary because you didn’t expect the noise… omg
I came here to reply about the soft-close toilet lids. It’s the best thing, but it definitely has caused us to slam some lids when elsewhere. I suppose I could be interested in soft-close drawers the next opportunity I have to select them as an option. Does it make the drawers require more effort to get them open? I don’t want to rip my nails off trying to re-learn how to open my drawers. Can’t do soft-close doors because I have pets that may try to get out.
We have a kitchen faucet which is touch-sensitive. Every time I use a kitchen faucet anywhere else, I tap the faucet neck. Then I tap it again. Then I look at it quizzically while tapping it again somewhere else.
Oo, that’s fancy! I didn’t know that was a thing.
It was easy to install, too—rather than wiring into the house, it just has a battery pack.
I have absolutely experienced what Sara describes…it has startled me and probably everyone within earshot of the bathroom when that seat and/or lid comes crashing down!
Cheers,
Joe
