How Do You Eat a Box of Chocolates?

Due to some special celebrations recently, I’ve received a few boxes of fancy chocolates, all of which are delicious and amazing. So far I’ve sampled chocolates from See’s and Katherine Anne, and Ginger Elizabeth awaits in my fridge.

The big box of See’s chocolates is unlabeled–you don’t know what you’re going to bite into. I like the surprise of discovery, and it appears that the caramels are typically rectangular while the ganache and creams are in circular chocolates.

The fancy box from Katherine Anne has labels for each of the chocolates, which is also helpful, especially since there are a few flavors I generally steer away from and others I get really excited about.

Since I’m sharing these chocolates with Megan, I noticed that we have different habits when it comes to leaving the wrappers in the box or throwing them away. For me, I like to remove the wrappers from the See’s box so it looks less messy and so I can tell at a quick glance how many chocolates are remaining. However, for labeled chocolates, I prefer to keep the wrappers in the box, lest the chocolates shift around (nullifying the label).

What about you? Which style of packaging do you prefer (surprise or labeled), and do you remove the wrappers as you eat the chocolates?

  1. I vastly prefer a roadmap because there are some flavors that I downright detest and others that I just don’t care for. As for See’s, I can ID the scotchmallow immediately and will usually go for that one. I usually won’t eat what I can’t ID from memory. I seriously don’t want to end up with a coffee one – or coconut – or malt.
