Biddy’s 14th Birthday!

The eldest and wisest of my two cats, Biddy, turned 14 today! Biddy’s previous birthday was right at the cusp of the pandemic, so he’s had an interesting year like the rest of us (from his perspective, he probably wonders why we don’t leave the house anymore and why people don’t come over for game night each week).

Biddy remains playful, curious, inquisitive, scheduled, and highly food-motivated. One of his favorite things is to snuggle between Megan and me on the couch. He doesn’t really know how to purr, but he does his best with heavy breathing (which turns into heavy snoring).

Biddy remains diabetic, but his weight and insulin are under control thanks to his ongoing diet and twice-daily shots. Beyond that, he remains in great shape–he’s well-groomed, and he runs the stairs with me every morning.

Biddy still isn’t quite sure why I got Walter as a pet for him years ago–he much prefers humans (specific humans) to other animals. And he continues to love venturing out for smells and sun on the patio (a rarity in these cold months).

Here are a few photos from Biddy’s birthday. He went outside, played in a box, perched for a while, ate plenty of treats, snuggled after lunch, and got high on catnip. Happy birthday, Biddy boy!

  1. According to the world’s most renowned cat experts (e.g., the first link that popped up in my Google search), “The first year of a cat’s life is equal to approximately 15 human years. The second year of a cat’s life is equal to an additional nine years. After the second year of a cat’s life, each additional year is equal to about four human years.” That makes Biddy about 72. Please let him know that he’s eligible for for the Coronavirus vaccine and long overdue for early bird specials. Happy birthday, Biddy!
