I’ve written about the love languages several times over the last 10+ years, and here’s a quick summary if you’re unfamiliar with the concept: Love languages indicate the ways you feel the most loved (and the value you place on the ways you show love to others).
The original love languages were detailed in a book by Gary Chapman, and in my blog posts over the years, I’ve added 4 more. Recently I’ve come to realize that one of the love languages has increased in value for me, so I thought I might revisit my list to see where everything falls.
That love language is typically known as “words of affirmation,” which has been in the middle of the list for me in the past. But I’ve realized there’s an aspect of it that goes a long way for me: When someone tells me that they enjoyed something I recommended to them. I don’t take recommendations lightly, especially when I’m recommending something to a specific person, so I definitely feel loved when the recommendation works out.
So here’s my updated list:
- Words of Affirmation
- Acts of Service
- Quality Time
- Chocolate
- Support of Presence
- Touch
- Thinking of You
- Gifts
- Quantity Time
What are your current rankings for the love languages?
