Nestflix: What’s Your Favorite Fictional Show/Movie within a Show/Movie?

One of my favorite fictional tropes in any form of media are references to fictional media (books, games, shows, movies, etc). Thanks to Nestflix, there’s now a detailed online compendium of many fake TV shows and movies nested inside other TV shows and movies.

I found myself giggling pretty much constantly as I scrolled through Nestflix, as many of the jokes are in the names and thumbnails of the fictional shows/movies. For that reason alone, I’d highly recommend checking it out.

You can also search for specific shows and movies (real or fake). For example, a search for Community brought up these references:

30 Rock has a ton of fake movies and TV shows, most of them far too offensive out of context (or even in context) to post in a photo here. But I’m particularly fond of this one:

Also, as mentioned by Slashfilm, up until today I had absolutely no idea that the old black-and-white movie used in Home Alone isn’t actually a real movie. It’s a fake movie created just for Home Alone!

If you spend a few minutes on Nestflix, I’d love to hear some of your favorite discoveries there.

  1. You seriously blew my mind with this post, Jamey. I first saw “Home Alone” in 6th grade, in the theater, and I never once considered that “Angels With Filthy Souls” was anything other than a real movie. Maybe if I had seen the movie as an adult, I’d have figured it out. But I don’t think so. That’s awesome.

And the “Rural Juror” is one of the all-time great gags.
