What Are Your Ideal Layers for a Super Bowl Dip?

The Super Bowl is coming up this Sunday. Perhaps you’re going to a Super Bowl party with some people who care about the game and others who are there for the commercials. I’ll be watching at home with Megan and the cats.

I like football, but I particularly enjoy Super Bowl food. My favorite dish is a version of the classic 7-layer dip, which I will indeed be making for 2 people on Sunday.

Today I thought I’d share my preferred dip layers, and I’m curious to hear yours. From bottom to top:

  • refried beans
  • black beans
  • cheddar and asadero cheese
  • sour cream
  • guacamole
  • salsa

I think the other traditional layers involve either lettuce, onions, and/or olives. I like lettuce, but it just gets in the way of the good stuff for the dip, and raw onions make your mouth taste like raw onions for days.

I loathe olives.

So that’s my ideal dip. I’ll cook the black beans first, then bake them for a bit with the refried beans and cheese. Then I’ll add the other layers and enjoy the game!

What are your preferred layers in a dip like this?
