Have You Watched “Severance”? (My Thoughts)

Severance is an absurdly weird and mysterious show…and I’m completely hooked.

This Apple TV series follows Mark, an employee at a company called Lumon. For various implied reasons–including corporate security–Mark has opted into process called “severance”. At work, he can’t remember anything about his personal life; at home, he can’t remember anything about his job.

It’s a really neat premise, and the show delves into the philosophy of a divided self. Are you the same person if your memory split between worlds? Who is in charge of decisions that impact your other self?

In addition, as clear as the show is about showing you what’s happening on the screen–the visuals are crystal clear–I also have almost no idea what is actually happening. I think everything is real (opposed to just being in characters’ minds), and if that’s true, Lumon is a very, very odd business.

We still have a few episodes to watch, so perhaps some of our questions will be answered. In the meantime, I’m really enjoying the ride, and the show does a great job of making me want to know what happens next.

Have you watched Severance? What did you think?

  1. I also enjoyed Severance. I think it’s rare for a show this “out there” to also feel grounded and not too pretentious. I haven’t quite figured out how they pulled that off, but I like it!

  2. PLEASE post your thoughts after you finish! My wife and I are obsessed. She has spent so much time pouring over the online discussions/theory crafting going on and breaking it down for me. Cannot wait for season 2 🙂

  3. My wife and I just finished the first season. I haven’t been that on the edge of my seat for a tv series since GoT or True Detective. I look forward to season two for more clarity and cliffhangers!
