If there’s ever a headline for me to click, including the words “best” and “chocolate” is a great start.
While scrolling through the news on CNN.com earlier this month, I saw such a headline and clicked through to this article about Italy’s gianduiotto chocolate. The article raves about this special chocolate, which is made from a mix of hazelnuts and cocoa.
Of course, I had to try it. A search on Amazon revealed a semi-reasonable price for a small box of Caffarel Gianduia chocolates made from the special Piedmont hazelnuts, and they arrived a few days ago.
I’ve eaten a few at this point, and I’m a little perplexed. The chocolate reminds me of Nutella, but it has a slight metallic taste to it that’s a little offputting. I even removed the chocolates from their foil wrappers in the hopes the metallic taste would go away, but it’s still there days later. I like the soft consistency, though.
I don’t know if it was this particular brand or batch, but I think the obvious solution is that I need to go to Italy to eat gianduiotto fresh off the assembly line.
Have you tried this style of chocolate? I do love chocolate with hazelnuts, and this made me want that version of a Tony’s chocolate bar.
