If you enjoyed Knives Out, Clue, or 21 Jump Street, I highly recommend Apple TV’s “The Afterparty.”
Here’s the concept: At a party following a 15-year high school reunion event, someone is murdered. Each episode of the show takes place partially at the location of the afterparty and partially through the eyes of a different suspect.
This is where the show really elevates itself. Everyone sees the world through a different lens. My recollection of the high school reunion might be vastly different than yours.
The creators of The Afterparty lean heavily into this concept, defining each perspective as a different genre. There’s a rom com, an action/thriller, a musical, etc.
Meanwhile, there’s a legitimate mystery unfolding. Megan and I had an evolving series of theories about different characters. Neither of us were right in the end, but the clues were there.
It’s rare that a show wraps up so cleanly and perfectly that I would also want another season…but I do. Not necessarily the same characters, but I’d gladly watch this style of show again in the future.
Have you watched The Afterparty? What did you think? Did you predict the outcome?
