Are You Excited About Fusion?

I love when science fiction becomes real science.

The breakthrough this week is that an ongoing, multi-decade fusion experiment–the scientific method takes time–has finally resulted in energy gain. Just a little bit of energy, but enough to show that it’s possible and that the potential is huge.

If that potential is fully realized, it could have a huge impact on the future of humankind. It’s an energy source that doesn’t produce greenhouse gasses or radioactive waste, and it could end energy poverty.

The reactor that created the small energy gain is the size of 3 football fields, so it has a long way to go before it impacts the world, but it gives me hope. I’m really excited about this development–are you?
