My Favorite TV Shows of 2022

I’m excited to begin a week of best-of-2022 lists with a new list: TV shows! We typically watch a short show at lunch and a longer show at dinner, and I’m amazed by quality of television in the modern era. From well-written half-hour comedies to epic cinematic dramas, I’m grateful for the many hours of entertainment provided by TV producers.

Honorable mentions: Survivor (season 43), Severance, Girls5Eva (season 2), Obi-Wan Kenobi, Last Week Tonight, Winning Time, American Ninja Warrior (season 14), What We Do in the Shadows (season 4), The Orville (season 3), Reboot, The Great British Bakeoff, and Home Economics

Top 10

I tried to rank these, but I don’t even know where to start. They’re all excellent shows, and most of them are quite different from each other. I eagerly wait future seasons of all of these shows. I’ll just share them in no particular order and my favorite aspect of each.

  • Arcane: The animation style is stunning.
  • Midnight Mass: I love how the mystery is unveiled, as well as the numerous long, lingering shots.
  • Star Trek Strange New Worlds: I really like how each episode focused on a different character.
  • The Afterparty: This is like the Knives Out movies, but spread out over multiple episodes.
  • The Rehearsal: Nathan Fielder’s shows are so weird, but I’m fascinated by his approach to human behavior and humor.
  • Andor: The writing in this show–particularly the dialogue–is incredible.
  • House of the Dragon: I thought the big jumps in time were really clever. This show moves at a relentless pace, no filler at all.
  • Welcome to Wrexham: This is like an amazing sports movie, but more.
  • For All Mankind (season 3): This show’s approach to social issues and an alternate history brought me to tears multiple times.
  • The White Lotus (season 2): We couldn’t stop watching this show for the setting, characters, and all the little hints we continually tried to piece together.

What were some of your favorite, most memorable, and most bingeworthy shows of 2022?

  1. I also enjoyed a lot of the shows you mentioned.

The series I enjoyed most were Black Bird (truly the best tv I have seen in a very long time—it’s dark and it doesn’t make you happy, but it’s incredible), Severance, Slow Horses, and Wednesday.

I also enjoyed Bad Sisters very much, which is an Irish remake of a very clever Belgian tv show.

  2. Severance, Stranger Things, The Afterparty, Survivor, and Netflix’s The Mole we’re my favorite shows of the year. If I had to pick my favorite… I’d probably have to go with Severance. It was such an interesting thriller/mystery to unravel.

  3. Absolutely LOVED Arcane. I play League of Legends which might have added to my love for the show but oh my goodness the story telling, the animation, the soundtrack, the diversity in characters- everything was so beautifully done.

Three other shows I loved this year were Heartstopper, Wednesday, and Dead End- Paranormal Park.

I know this show didn’t come out in 2022, but it’s my favorite show of all time- She-Ra: Princesses of Power will just always make my list and I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE RULES😂

    • I’m glad you enjoyed Arcane too! It’s one of the few shows on this list–as much as I love them–that I would seriously consider rewatching.

      • I typically don’t rewatch things but this is an exception I will make as I plan to rewatch it with my wife once the next season comes out. Also, just realized I posted as Anonymous lol

  4. I have been acquiring all the seasons of Young Sheldon as they become available on DVD. However, after watching Season Five I am now tempted to eschew Seasons Six and Seven. This is because Young Sheldon is morphing from a comedy into a drama (and eventually a tragedy, with the foreshadowed death of Sheldon’s father).
