Today I want to give a little shoutout to the wonder that is the human body.
Every now and then I get a little excited about whatever I’m eating and I bite the inside of my cheek. I’m sure you’ve done this: It hurts, and it makes eating a precarious act instead of a joyous one for a few days.
But here’s where the miracle happens: No matter how badly I bite myself (or get any of the other nicks, scratches, papercuts, etc that happen on occasion), whenever I wake up from my nightly slumber, it’s a lot better. Somehow considerably better than if the same amount of time passed during my waking hours.
I don’t take this for granted. It’s an incredible act of generosity from our bodies, and I have no doubt it will continue to slow as I grow older. But I’m grateful for it while it lasts.
I’d even add that a good night’s sleep can help to heal emotional and mental wounds, not just those that are physical. It doesn’t cure anything outright, but the incremental healing can be a crucial difference, especially with the person you’re waking up next to.
Have you noticed that you heal faster when you sleep than when you’re awake?
Absolutely .
“I will sleep on it” is good for many things, healing physically and often mentally.
Making a big decision is often better having slept on it .
I love sleep! , I love this time of year with dark nights at 4pm and home and cosy & warm in the house while it’s -4 outside.
Early nights for a good nights sleep is wonderful 🙂
Well said, Mark. I completely agree. 🙂
