Have You Watched the New Hunger Games Movie? (My Thoughts)

A few years ago I was pleasantly surprised by the Hunger Games prequel book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It’s rare that I wanted detailed origin stories for tales already woven, but I found it fascinating to see how different the Games were before they were fully developed and well-funded. Plus, the future President Snow made a fascinating, active protagonist to follow.

Well, now that I’ve watched the movie based on the book, I’m also really happy that the film exists too! The first 2 hours of the film fly by, and they make a case for being the best 2 hours of any Hunger Games movie. The performances across the board are excellent, especially Rachel Zegler’s singing, Tom Blyth in general, and Jason Schwartzman’s comic relief. Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis are great too.

Seeing what the 10th annual Hunger Games looked like made me want to rewatch the first movie as a reminder of what they become. The prequel works as a standalone film, but I think it also makes for a great duology with the first movie.

Have you seen the new film? What did you think?
