A Few Questions from “Family Trips”

Earlier this week I mentioned a new-to-me podcast I’m really enjoying, Family Trips. One thing I didn’t mention is that they end every episode with a series of quick-fire questions that I thought would be fun to ask (and answer):

  1. What’s your preferred vacation: relaxing, adventurous, or educational?
  2. What’s your preferred method of travel: car, ship, train, plane, etc?
  3. If you could travel with any family other than your own (alive, dead, or fictional), who would it be?
  4. If you were stranded on an island with one member of your family, who would you choose?
  5. Where is your hometown and would you recommend it for a trip destination?
  6. Have you been to the Grand Canyon? If not, do you want to go there?

Here are my answers:

  1. I’d probably say “relaxing,” though I’m not sure any of those words fully encompass my preferred vacation. My preference is to go to one city/region and spend my time liesurely enjoying that place, especially the local culture and cuisine.
  2. In most cases, car. I really enjoyed our flexible drive across New Zealand–because we had a car, we could choose to stay in certain places longer or shorter than planned. I really don’t like being at the whim of planes.
  3. I’d say family in The Incredibles. That would be a memorable vacation.
  4. My dad would be by far the most resourceful person to have on an island. Among living family members, I think it would have to be Megan, right?
  5. I grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia, which is a delightful place to live but definitely not a vacation destination unless you’re fascinated by the suburbs.
  6. I haven’t been to the Grand Canyon, and I can’t say that it’s anywhere close to the top of my list of places to go, especially after seeing Bryce Canyon. I have been to the Little Grand Canyon in southern Illinois, which is a nice hike.

What are your answers?

  1. Jamey,
Is this the one run by Seth Meyers? For me…
    1. Educational (Adventurous is the runner-up)
    2. Train (Plane is a very close 2nd, as I love overseas travel)
    3. My friend, Matt, as he enjoys food and other cultures
    4. My brother, Mike…smart and incredibly resourceful
    5. Philadelphia, PA…Absolutely; come visit!
    6. No, I’ve never been there, but I would love to spend time in SW U.S.
    Cheers,
    Joe
