Have You Watched Deadpool & Wolverine? (My Thoughts)

Seeing Deadpool team up with the previously deceased Wolverine was one of my most anticipated movies of the year. Despite holding back laughter due to my appendectomy incisions, the film was a delight from start to finish.

In particular, I really liked hearing Deadpool break the fourth wall in regards to the MCU and even the actors themselves. Other than She-Hulk, most Marvel characters in movies and shows aren’t aware that they are entertainment, which is probably a good thing overall. But I love the additional layer of commentary that Deadpool adds.

I also think this movie might showcase the best use of cameos of almost any film. Most cameos in films are “Hey, here’s an unexpected famous person!”, but here it’s Marvel characters making cameos–and serving specific purposes–not the actors behind them.

The movie looks fantastic–including several long-shot action scenes–and the jokes are balanced with some solid heartfelt moments and stakes. There were two jokes in particular that had me giggling to the point of pain (one involving a tailor and the other an animal)–I hope you enjoy them more than I was able to.

After Deadpool & Wolverine, I’m genuinely excited by what’s next in the MCU, especially the addition of the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom as a major Avengers villain.

What did you think of the movie, and are you excited by anything in particular from Marvel to come over the next few years?

  1. So, the Deadpool movies have been a daddy-daughter dinner date movie sine the first one. As she’s a stage director, I’ve learned a lot about breaking the fourth wall. She was The Stage Manager in her high school production of Our Town years ago, and I’ve always enjoyed that particular brand of storytelling. There were so many great one-liners, and even cultural icons, going back decades that younger audience members will simply not get (“Are you going to shoot me like Benji” had me in stitches, but I had to remember to fill my daughter in on the joke afterwards. While generally irreverent and foul-mouthed, his character is attractive because he’s flawed and is still a hero. As for what’s next, in truth, I have to catch-u on my MCU films.
