The Wild Robot may be my favorite movie of 2024 so far. It’s everything I want in a film.
I had low-yet-high expectations, as it had rave reviews, but the trailer depicts a movie without dialogue (which can work, but…I like dialogue!). Fortunately, the robot herself is actually quite talkative, and very early on she learns the language of the critters in the forest where she washed up on shore.
As a result, the characterizations are incredibly well-developed and charming, and they’re accompanied by stunning visuals. It’s a very funny movie at times, but it also evokes strong emotions about parenthood and community.
I highly, highly recommend The Wild Robot. If you see it, let me know your thoughts and your favorite character. I think Roz has the most powerful lines, but I loved the haughty elegance of the beaver (voiced perfectly by Matt Berry of “What We Do in the Shadows”).
