At the recent Groupvergence geeky weekend, there were several events geared around fun cocktails: the Batman escape-room party, the tiki party, and the drinking panel. I love trying unique/weird cocktails, and they were available in abundance, so today I thought I’d describe a few of them and see if you have any to add.
At the Batman party, each drink was themed around a different Batman villain. Most were quite colorful–one even had sparkles–and there was a tasty drink with coffee ice cream. Two of the most memorable ingredients were a dry-ice cocktail (the ice was contained within a tea strainer so you wouldn’t accidentally touch or eat it) and a cocktail with a fluff of cotton candy placed on top (it quickly dissolves to sweeten the drink).
The tiki party featured classic, colorful island drinks. I think the Blue Hawaiian was my favorite–it features pineapple juice, blue curacao, and creme de coconut.
The drinking panel–where a few people are subjected to variety of cocktails and liquors presented by all other attendees–brings out a lot of creativity. Among the drinks we tried were a soy-sauce based drink served with a side of rice, a very tasty espresso martini, a Chicago-style hot dog drink that included toothpick with a pepper and several hot dog pieces, and a spicy island drink (the secret ingredient? A packet of Taco Bell hot sauce).
My contribution to the panel (which I was on) was Gatorwine. Inspired by a video from Binging with Babish, I combined a nice bottle of red wine with Cool Blue Gatorade. The result? Surprisingly tasty. I enjoyed it much more than I thought.
What’s a unique, memorable, or weird cocktail (non-alcoholic is totally fine!) you’ve tried?
