My mom is on a streak of great recommendations. First “A Man on the Inside” on Netflix, then the audiobook of “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby van Pelt. It’s literary fiction with the slightest dose of magical realism.
The book follows a few entwined characters who don’t realize just how entwined they are. They’re written well, and I was rooting for all of them.
What really elevates the book is that one of those characters happens to be a giant pacific octopus. If you’ve seen “My Octopus Teacher”, you know how intelligent octopuses are–there wasn’t a moment of the book that the octopus’ perspective felt anything but real.
Even more delightfully, in the audiobook version, the octopus’ chapters are narrated by Michael Urie, who we spent the last month watching as the lawyer friend on the excellent show Shrinking.
What’s the last audiobook you really enjoyed?
I loved Remarkably Bright Creatures and am currently enjoying Man on the Inside. I have a long commute so audiobooks have become a good past time. Recently, I’ve enjoyed the Briar Club by Kate Quinn, 11/22/63 by Stephen King and First Ladies by Marie Benedict and Victoria Murray
I’m glad you enjoyed it too! Thanks for those recommendations–I’ll check them out.
