After enjoying 3 seasons of The White Lotus, I’m all for any scripted show about people vacationing in beautiful places. So I was intrigued by Netflix’s “The Four Seasons”, especially for the concept that it features the same people (a great cast) vacationing in different places each season: a lake house, a tropic island, a cozy inn, and a ski chalet.
It’s 8 episodes, with 2 consecutive episodes per season (each around 30 minutes). So it works as short lunch show, a longer dinner show, or even a weekend movie. Very clever, versatile format.
As for the content of the show, it leans more comedic, but there’s also plenty of character- and relationship-driven drama. Each of the 4 couples has different types of challenges to navigate, and while some were a little stressful to watch, I thought all of them were well written and thought-provoking. There’s one in particular that could have easily fallen into a classic trope were it not for fresh writing.
If you like vacation shows, I definitely recommend The Four Seasons. Do you have a vacation-themed show you would suggest?
Yes we watched this with high anticipation. I think the first half of the series was better than the last half. Funnier and more thought provoking. But overall a good ride.
Have you watched The Studio on Apple TV? I know you love long shots, this show is long shots heaven, especially the fantastic second episode, 26 minutes of one shot. Also hilarious show.
A 26-minute long shot?! That sounds amazing. Adding it to my list now. 🙂
