Have You Read the Superb Rom-Com Novel “The Lodge”? (My Thoughts)

After recently realizing that my love of rom-com movies could also be satiated by rom-com novels in the form of The Rom-Commers, I went on the hunt for other books in the genre. There I found The Lodge by Kayla Olson, and I’m glad I did, as I loved every page of it.

The Lodge centers on entertainment journalist Alix Morgan, who is hired by a pop star Sebastian Green to write his autobiography. Most of the book takes place in a ski resort in Vermont, a great setting for a cozy novel. She meets a man and romance ensues (along with some comedy).

I’m generally drawn to rom coms that avoid common tropes, and that’s what elevates The Lodge. For example, I wasn’t expecting an ongoing mystery about someone who disappeared from the public eye years ago. I also wasn’t expecting some challenging family dynamics.

Most of all, I wasn’t expecting both lead characters to have real/raw emotions while also making decisions that gave their relationship a chance. There are dramatic moments, yes, but the characters have excellent conversations and consistently give each other a chance. I loved that.

I’m not ashamed to say that I cried at the end of The Lodge. It’s rare that a book evokes such strong emotions in me, but I really cared about these characters and was highly invested in their story.

If you’re in the mood for a great, uplifting rom-com novel, I highly recommend The Lodge.

  1. Ok, finished the book, thanks for the recommendation. It’s cute. I was expecting a bit more Comedy but I did enjoy the mystery the most. I wouldn’t say this is my genre but I’m glad I tried something different.
