Today Megan was clearing some space under our bed, and she found a big clump of cat hair that was no doubt a combination of Walter and Biddy. It gave me an idea that probably isn’t possible, but I’ll share it with you just in case.
It will soon be 2 years since we lost Biddy to cancer, and I still think about him and miss him every day. More than once I’ve legitimately thought about cloning him, but I’ve decided against it because (a) it wouldn’t really be Biddy and (b) it doesn’t feel right, given how many health problems Biddy had throughout his life (yet they never detered him from living life to the fullest).
But then Megan brought me that clump of hair, and it got me thinking: What if we could create a cat that is half Biddy and half Walter? Unlike Biddy, our almost 15-year-old Walter has had almost no health issues. They’re both adorable ginger tabby cats–wouldn’t they combine for an equally adorable kitten?
Is this possible? I’m 99% sure that cloning one dog or cat is possible, but can you mix the DNA of two different cats during the cloning process?
Of course, I wouldn’t actually do this–there are plenty of cats at local shelters and cat cafes that need adopting. But I’m curious if it’s possible. What do you think?

Hello Jamey, thanks for your thoughts.
I think each living being is unique in its way and when they are gone, they live on in our hearts. We must live with it.
And even if we try to clone them, they will not be the ones we lost.
There are so many homeless animals and in my humble opinion it’s more precious to give them a loving home instead of breading “new” animals.
If you adopt one animal from a shelter, you save two animals: the one you are adopting and the one which can take the vacant space in the shelter.
Our gone animals for sure would approve to give a loving home to other homeless souls.
