I love a long shot in a TV show or movie. So imagine my delight when I saw that the second episode of The Studio is called “The Oner”. It gets even better–more on that in a second.
The Studio is a 2025 half-hour show on Apple TV. The premise is that Seth Rogen–a lover of film–takes the healm of a struggling Hollywood studio. Rogen is great in the role as a well-meaning but floundering studio head, and the supporting cast is rock solid (if you haven’t listened to Chase Sui Wonder’s podcast appearance on Family Trips, I highly recommend it).
Episode 2, The Oner, is about a director trying to film a long shot to conclude the movie. They’ve rehearsed all day and are ready to film it several times while the lighting is perfect…and then Rogen shows up. He’s super excited to witness the shot.
To make this episode all the more impressive, nervewracking, and entertaining is that it is also a oner. That’s right: Episode 2, an episode about filming a oner, is itself a oner. How amazing is that?!
I’m excited to see what other meta elements The Studio brings in future episodes. Are you watching it?

We LOVED this show and are really looking forward to season 2. There isn’t another episode that is an entire oner, but each episode is filled with long takes; it’s a very technically impressive show. I watched some behind the scenes of a later episode on how they filmed a long sequence in a conference room and it was very clever. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Apparently every scene in the show is a oner? I think I heard Rogen say that, and that’s what I’ve seen so far.
I knew you gonna like this one, I watched that episode 4 times so far just enjoying the artistry and laughs. Check some of the behind the scenes youtube videos including the one featuring Ron Howard. Fantastic show!
That’s awesome! I’ll look into the behind-the-scenes videos. 🙂
