Can You Solve This One-Photo Mystery?

Yesterday I had a short-but-harrowing adventure that ended well thanks to some clever sleuthing by Megan.

My manufacturer sent me a production sample last week that was supposed to arrive on Friday, but DHL decided I wasn’t home (I was) and didn’t deliver it. They also didn’t deliver it on Monday or Tuesday, so I was anxious when I finally got a delivery notification on Wednesday afternoon…

…only to find that the package wasn’t in my lobby. Nor was it on the front steps of any of the neighboring buildings. I couldn’t find it anywhere.

So I called DHL, and they pointed me towards this photo (definitely not of our lobby) to delivery driver had taken to verify the delivery:

This photo baffled me, particularly the device the package is on. It looks a little like a chair (but carpeted?) and a little like a shelf. It gave me the impression that the package had been misdelivered to a local business, but I needed a clue to narrow it down.

So I called Megan over to my desk and showed her the photo. It took her less than a second to say exactly what we were looking at, which revealed where the package was. A few minutes later, I had it in hand.

You’re welcome to solve the mystery in the comments, where I’ll reveal the correct answer tomorrow morning. 🙂

  1. I was born and raised in vegas so I instantly recognized what it is sitting on. I’m glad you have it safe in hand!

  2. I was going to say “Which hotel did they send it to?” but unless you live a few minutes from a hotel you’ve stayed at, that doesn’t seem to match the rest of the post or the above comment. It very much looks like a luggage cart or possibly a rolling coat rack though.

  3. It looks like a luggage cart from a hotel, but to have it in minutes? I’m interested to know where this was! I have certainly known of a few misadventures with DHL, glad you got this sorted out!

  4. Hotel luggage cart. I recognize it mostly because my kids loved being carried on it even when we didn’t really need it for luggage in hotels.

    • I figured that it was in one of the businesses that share our residential street, but I didn’t know which one (the hotel) until Megan identified it as the hotel luggage cart. I went into the closest entrance, asked the porter if a DHL package had been delivered in the last 10 minutes, and he handed it over. 🙂
