Have You Watched Alien: Earth? (My Thoughts)

We recently raced through Alien: Earth, as we were riveted from start to finish.

I say this as someone who has watched most Alien movies. They’re on that interesting edge between sci-fi (which I love) and horror (which I mostly avoid). I probably have the most vivid memories of Aliens and Prometheus, but there are tons of gaps in my knowlege.

Yet from the start, I was hooked on Alien: Earth. The first episode is about a spaceship crashing into a city owned by a company that doesn’t own the ship. The ship is full of alien specimens that are somewhat central to the show, but there’s also a completely different (yet interconnected) element of Alien: Earth that focuses on new versions of humanoids: cyborgs, synths, and (most notably) synths.

The synths are robotic people implanted with the contents of childrens’ minds (children whose original bodies are dying). The acting for these characters is remarable, as they are adult actors playing children who have suddenly come to occupy adult, superhuman bodies.

I’ll also mention that the set design and CGI (plus some practical effects) are incredible. Nothing feels like a movie set or looks like an animated alien. Everything feels real. It’s amazing.

I wouldn’t call the show scary, but there is gore and violence, particularly involving the titular alien. If you can put up with that, I highly recommend Alien: Earth. I’m curious what you think if you’ve finished the season!
