Have You Watched “Haunted Hotel”? (My Thoughts)

For no particularly good reason, I typically enter animated shows with hesitation. But I’m so glad I took a friend’s recommendation and watched Haunted Hotel on Netflix–it’s so much fun.

The premise is almost exactly the same as the live-action show, Ghosts, with the key difference being that everyone can see the ghosts on the hotel’s property. Some smaller but equally important differences are (a) there’s are kids in the family who owns the hotel, including one who is hilariously possessed by an ancient demon and (b) some of the ghosts and themes are quite scary…or, rather, they would be if they weren’t animated.

Like many of my favorite half-hour shows, I found Haunted Hotel to be very funny and occassionally very heartwarming. There’s so much visual and verbal humor that I’m sure we missed some great jokes; one was so funny we went back to watch it twice (it features a mirror version of one of kids). And then the show will hit you with a poignant reflection on life or death that makes you really care about the characters. It’s great.

I highly recommend Haunted Hotel, and I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve watched it. What are you watching this Halloween week?
