Here’s how much I’m enjoying the show Yellowjackets: I’m so invested in not knowing what happens next that I’m not going to risk a spoiler by Googling an image to add to this post. Heck, I don’t even know how many seasons there are or if the show is complete.
All I know is that I’m here for whatever awaits.
I’m saying this without even completing season 1. The show plays as a bit of a spooky modern fairytale, Lost meets Lord of the Flies with a high school girl’s soccer team at the heart of the story.
The big hook–revealed in the first minute of the show–is that the team’s plane crashed in the wilderness on the way to a big game. In a bold move, the show doesn’t start with the crash; rather, after a haunting first scene, it starts with several of the girls as women, 25 years later. You know right away that some of them survived in the woods (for around 18 months) and that they have distanced themselves from the tragedy and each other.
I’m definitely more compelled by the scenes in the woods, as the show cuts back and forth between past and present. But the scenes in the present add so much weight, meaning, and mystery to the scenes in the past. Hats off to the writers.
If you heard about the show and, like me, thought it sounded a little too creepy, I’d still give it a chance. I’m so impressed by Yellowjackets and am completely hooked. Without spoilers, I’d love to hear your overall thoughts if you’ve watched some of it.
We’ve watched the first two seasons. There’s supposedly a third coming, but I’ve quit tracking things like that because of how much time now passes between seasons for some shows. We will likely rewatch the first two seasons once we have access to the third season. Overall, it’s a great series, and I’m thrilled with what they’ve done with the adults’ storylines. The actors were really well chosen as well. Four thumbs up from this house!
I think the third season might be available. We just finished season 2, and it took us right to the next episode (season 3 episode 1) on Paramount Plus.
