10 Games I Want to Play at Geekway Mini

In just over a month I’m attending the smaller version of my favorite game convention, Geekway to the West. I’ve been working on a list of games I’m hoping to try from their play-and-win and library (or any copy that’s floating around). I like to play a variety of games at Geekway to experience them, learn from them, and talk about them. It’s nice to have the opportunity to try them without adding another game to my crowded shelves (unless I really end up loving it after trying it!).

  • Moon Colony Bloodbath: This is from the creator of Dominion, and I love the hook that you play until one player’s colony has no people remaining (due to the titular bloodbath).
  • Fate of the Fellowship: I’ve heard great things about this Pandemic-style game set in Middle-earth; it’s one of the hottest games of 2025.
  • Biome: People were raving about this interactive nature-themed game at Geekway Prime in May.
  • Kinfire Delve: This is another cooperative game that looks amazing, plays quickly, and for which I’ve heard great things.
  • Witchcraft: I love the art in this 2-player game, along with what appears to be a juicy choice for each character (hide or reveal). It is a solitaire game, but I bet we could play it as a multi-player coop.
  • Tag Team: I’m fascinated by snappy auto-battler tabletop games, and I’m curious about outwitting my opponent as I choose where to insert cards into my deck each round before the battle plays out.
  • Doom Cat: In addition to the feline theme, I’m intrigued by the idea of creating sigils by drawing lines across circular cards in this roll-and-write game.
  • Bohemians: The art in this game has me hooked, along with some of the deckbuilding innovations. I like the idea of a game about artists seeking inspiration (and often getting distracted along the way).
  • Empires of the Void II: The most recent addition to this list, I’m intrigued by the modularity of the different planets. I’m a big fan of Ryan Laukat’s games.
  • The King Is Dead: This is the only game on the list I’ve already played. I remember really loving it, especially the idea that all the cards you’ll ever have are in your opening hand, so it’s just a matter of when and how you play them.

Also: Shackleton Base, Mahjong, and Sherlock Holmes Scotland Yard

What are you looking forward to playing soon or at an upcoming convention?
