How Are You as a Housemate?

We were recently discussing what it would look like to live with a friend or friends, and the topic of housemate traits came up. What are your potentially annoying housemate traits, and what are traits in housemates that might annoy you?

Some potentially annoying things I do are that I like it fairly warm during the day (72 degrees) and fairly cold at night (65 degrees max). Part of my workout involves running up and down the stairs. I don’t mind most chores, but I hardly ever think to dust or to empty the sink of any drying dishes. I can also be annoying when I’m annoyed.

Some traits that potentially annoy me are ambient background noise, nervous habits (like leg bouncing, nailbiting, etc), and when people don’t turn off the lights in rooms they aren’t using. I’m trying to think of things that aren’t just objectively annoying, like leaving dirty dishes in the sink for days.

What are a few of these for you?

  1. Someone who throws recyclables in the garbage, leaves their water/food-filled dishes in the sink to soak and never does anything with them, has to have the TV on to go to sleep, people who let their dogs bark endlessly… I’m sure my straightforward attitude about all that would be enough of a “flaw” to override any objectionable habits of mine.

  2. My housemate in college wouldn’t do her dishes so she got Post-Its. So she stopped putting dishes in the sink and started hoarding them in her room. It came to a point I slept with a knife, spoon, and fork under my pillow so I had utensils.
