A recent podcast (Good Hang with Amy Poehler) reminded me of a sentiment I relate strongly to: Time is the one resource we spend that we can never get back.
It’s both a reminder of how I use my time and an opportunity for a hypothetical question: What would you do if you had a time dilation box?
Here is how the box works:
- It’s about the size of a bed. You can bring anything into it and out of it.
- It is entirely self contained. There’s no connection to the outside world when you’re in the box.
- You can spend a maximum of 1 hour in the box every day. For every minute that passes in the box, only 1 second passes outside.
In other words, if you had an extra hour of free time every day, what would you do with it?
I think I would vary my use of the box. My instinct is to use it productively (create games, write books, etc), but I think it’s important to balance that time with appreciating creations that already exist. I could read for an extra hour, for example–I’d love that. I might spend some extra time exercising too.
Also, I’d have to keep in mind that I would be experiencing 25-hour days. This would impact my sleep schedule and aging.
What would you do with a time dilation box, if anything?
Jamey,
100% I would take advantage of this every day…from game development to time with my puppies. This would be a wonderful addition to many people’s lives.
Cheers,
Joe
I like the idea of cherishing that extra time with our pets. 🙂
